CHA Council Profiles

CHA has a Council of up to 9 members, of which three are Maori, elected by the Maori caucus. The other six Council members are elected by full member organisations at an AGM.

Andrew Wilson, CHA Chair
IHC Properties – Wellington, Aotearoa/NZ

Andrew is general manager for the community housing portfolio of IHC New Zealand Inc. The portfolio includes 850 houses which provide accommodation for 3,000 people with intellectual disabilities. With a background as a consulting engineer, Andrew subsequently worked in senior management roles for Standards New Zealand, including interim chief executive. He was awarded a NZ 1990 medal of community service.

Alan Johnson, CHA Vice Chair
Salvation Army – Auckland, Aotearoa/NZ

Alan has been involved in various community based housing projects for over 20 years. He is a trustee of the Auckland Housing Association and a founding shareholder in Habitat for Humanity Manukau. Alan works for the The Salvation Army’s in the Army’s Social Policy and Parliamentary Unit as a social policy analyst. He has an academic background in town planning and economics and grew up and lives in South Auckland where he is active in a variety of community projects.

Keith Preston, CHA Treasurer
Nelson Tasman Housing Trust – Nelson, Aotearoa/NZ

Keith lives in Nelson and is a trustee of the Nelson Tasman Housing Trust and a NZ branch committee member of the Australasian Housing Institute. As a member of the NHT, Keith helps provide affordable homes for local people, organises a home insulation service ‘Healthier Homes’ and coordinates interim and emergency housing. Over the last four years his company Sustainability Ltd. has been helping community housing groups to become established and worked with local councils on affordable housing solutions. Keith’s interest in housing comes from 30 years of working with community housing organisations in England.

Lisa Woolley
CEO Friendship Centre Trust – Auckland, Aotearoa/NZ

Lisa has served as the CEO of the Friendship Centre Trust for the last seven years. The Trust, which is based in Waitakere City, provides a wide range of social services caring for over 6,000 people every year and employing over 370 staff and a volunteer base of over 70 people. Lisa has been involved in community based housing since the 1980’s where she began working for an organisation providing Emergency Housing for people in Los Angeles, USA. She has completed a Graduate Diploma in Not-for-Profit Management and is currently studying towards her Masters in Social Practice, which provides many opportunities to study some of the National and International Community Housing Sector trends.

Victoria Kingi
Horaparaikete Trust – Papamoa, Bay of Plenty, Aotearoa/NZ

Victoria is a long time supporter of Papakainga housing and is committed to and passionate about Maori Land development for both economic and social benefit. Victoria has recently been involved with the development of 250 residential homes in Papamoa using long term individual leases. She has a degree in law and has served on multiple boards since 2001. Victoria currently works for Te Pune Kokiri and is one of the three Maori caucus representatives at CHA.

Annette Sutherland
Comcare Housing Services – Christchurch, Aotearoa/NZ

Annette’s career has included a fair measure of tenant advocacy. She started off as an English teacher and spent some time tutoring Feminist studies at University. From there she went on to Benefit & Tenancy advocacy through Community Law Services and the Tenant Protection Association. For the last 10 years she haa worked with Comcare in evolving their services in Housing Facilitation from both a tenancy and landlord perspective.

Elaine Lolesio
Monte Cecilia Housing Trust – Mangere, Auckland, Aotearoa/NZ

Elaine is of Ngati Kuri, Ngati Kahu and Samoan descent and works cross culturally with many ethnicities. Elaine has worked for Monte Cecilia Housing Trust for 20 years and has a passion for housing homeless families, as the Trust provides emergency housing, advocacy, advice and support. Elaine is responsible for managing the delivery of services, which meets the needs of low-income families facing a housing crisis. Throughout the years she has experienced the changes of Government Housing Policies and the impacts of poor housing within the Auckland region.

Niko Broughton
Helping Families Ltd – Tologa Bay, Aotearoa/NZ

Niko and his wife Tania Broughton have developed whanau-based services for the wider East Coast Maori population. They have implemented programmes to renovate housing stock for a healthier living environment. Niko is the Director of a successful company based out of Tolaga Bay, which provides consulting services to various government organisations. Niko is one of the three Maori caucus representatives at CHA.
